Why did the birds attack?

Why did the NAZIs murder the Jews?

Why do terrorists commit mass murder against strangers?

The world can be an unexpectedly dangerous place, and we need to quickly adjust to reality, even if we don't fully understand why things are happening.

This is a great film! One of Hitchkock's best.

This is one of the questions in the FAQs. Hitchcock didn't have an answer to why.

I think the more intriguing aspect of this is that they COULD. We all think of birds as innocuous and beautiful, but there are so many of them, and as the old lady in the diner pointed out, if different types started massing together, "we'd have no chance!"

It is interesting that you used two scenarios of terror that are based on human conscious decisions whereas it would mostly be assumed animals, in this case birds, would do this without such thought, maybe?
