Why does it always say 'crisis' in the opening sequence?

It's the only text on screen except for the credits. The way it's prominently placed on the screen you'd think it was the episode's title but it isn't. It just says "crisis" and nothing else.

"Crisis" appears to be the Syndication Title for the series. Shows like Happy Days "Again" and Chips "Patrol" were common place back then.

Oh, I see. I guess that makes sense. It was just a little confusing to me. Thanks for the explanation. :)

Since it went into syndication, and Kraft isn't the sole sponsor as it was for the original run, they had to change the title.

But it was also normal to have a syndication title for a show back then, especially if the series was still running on the network. "Badge 714" for Dragnet is an example. Also, when Lassie went into syndication they used the title "Jeff's Collie" for the earlier shows that didn't have Timmie in them.

The Andy Griffith Show was syndicated as Andy of Mayberry.

I had the same question. Thanks for the answers!

So it goes.
