I'm shocked at what DIDN'T happen today on GH

I'm beyond shocked that Sonny wasn't the one who sang today at Sabrina's memorial. You just know that MB has convinced the execs at ABC that he has the world's best singing voice.

reply

Horrible funeral- totally predictable- from Liz's 'surprise' entry, to Carly rescuing Mikey, to Piffy's horrid song.

Ugh!

reply

Agreed. I know the funeral was a way to push storylines forward but it makes people question why she got one but others didn't.

reply

Liz JUST popped up in real time on my end (3:45pm EST). I'm on the east coast, so I'm guessing the show is shown early elsewhere?

reply

Can we put a moratorium on that song now?

reply

I wasn't surprised that Epiphany sang that song. It was expected. She is talented. It was sad. Sabrina had many characters who cared about her.

When she was around. But for the 40% of her four years that she was off-camera, no one mentioned her except Michael and Felix. Certainly no one else seemed especially concerned when she allegedly ran off with a mafia hit man, while pregnant, for months on end.

It is much like the way that we were repeatedly told that everyone at the hospital loves Elizabeth and was concerned about her, but the only one who bothered to visit her was Franco.

reply

They don't mention them all the time onscreen because they're caught up in their own experiences. My point was that she was involved, interacted with, or whatever with a number of current characters.
They don't show friendships being cultivated enough but we knew many liked Sabrina. Some don't have that and their funerals, if they had one, would have more extras than contract players.

Well Sabrina only had about 10-12 regulars attend her funeral, about 1/4 of them there just to support Michael. I think dozen characters could have attended funerals for Edward or Nikolas. A.J. maybe not so much.

reply

Yes, they should have had something for Edward. I believe they were going back and forth with Nikolas because of the Tyler Christopher negotiations. Nik did have a memorial service when he pretended to be dead.

Monica was the only one to care about AJ and she's rarely shown. Michael cared somewhat but it was more about his anger for Sonny during that time.

I think they should have had something for Edward paying tribute to both David Lewis and John Ingle. Maybe we'll get that towards the end of GH and also include John Bernadino, Emily Mclaughlin, and more.

reply

Come to think of it, I don't remember they're having a funeral for Steve Hardy either. Did they? If not, wow.

reply

They had no onscreen funeral for Steve Hardy and Jessie Brewer's death wasn't even mentioned onscreen until years after it happened. Emily McLaughlin died in 1991, but the first time I remember the death being acknowledged on screen was during the 50th anniversary in 2013.

reply

They had a memorial at the hospital for Steve. I can only find it on Youtube lumped in with the Carly clips.

But not one that we saw, only one that we heard about. The interesting thing is that Steve Hardy's death was the same day as the first appearance of Carly, I remember because she spent the entire episode complaining that his death meant that no one was paying attention to her. She was a selfish, self-centered and entitled bitch from the first instant she appeared.

reply

They did show the memorial service, and Carly was firmly entrenched in PC by then.

reply

I said the episode where he died, not the one with the memorial service. The episode where he died was Carly's first appearance, and she spent the entire episode whining that people cared more about the dead guy than her, it was her first day as a student nurse.

reply

Carly came to town in April and was working at the hospital as a PT before Steve died in July.

(JB left the show in April but he died in May. The show had Steve pass away in July and the memorial quickly followed.)

Hmmm. Maybe you're recalling this scene... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nWjpiDfF4s&list=PL4A992F702B664C1F&index=65 This is the day she was accepted into the nursing program, but it wasn't her first appearance.

reply

Yeah, I thought Carly was a gadabout before she landed a job at GH. Didn't she originally show up as "fake" Caroline working in cahoots with that private investigator Bobbie hired and trying to bilk the Joneses? Early on I guess they changed course and the P.I. disappeared and lo and behold Carly was now the real Caroline hell bent on revenge. At that point she started working at GH. I think she was a nursing student and then later worked as a PT (as if those were interchangeable) with hardly any credentials. It's also funny, in hindsight, how Monica kept pushing Bobbie to embrace Carly when later on Carly destroyed her son's life.

reply

No, Carly started volunteering at the hospital immediately after arriving. Then she was a physical therapist and then she went to nursing school.

I don't remember thinking that Carly was a fraud, just that she & the PI were lying to Bobbie while Carly sought revenge.

That's possible, but if Carly was always Caroline then why was she in cahoots with the P.I.? She didn't need him after he connected them. I do remember that there was talk on the show of a fake Carly initially (with the P.I.) but I don't remember the details.

reply

I'm not sure, honestly. The one scene I just rewatched showed him giving Carly half of the money Bobbie had paid him. He said Bobbie was anxious to find her daughter, and Carly said "Let's keep it that way." I think they were just bilking her. I thought he came to PC to then get some hush money out of Carly, but I'm not sure if I remember that correctly.

reply

Yeah, it was a long time ago. I just remember Carly's intro as murky. I guess they were trying to figure out where they wanted to go with it.

They could have done more than they have. Part of showing Sabrina's was to show Paul's reactions.

reply

A lot of hubbub for a third string character. I kinda wish they'd skip the funeral and do the obligatory ghost haunting someone to speed up her departure. I guess in this case it'll be Sabrina haunting Paul.
