General Hospital really went downhill when it was made the Sonny/Carly/Jason show. Yes obviously shows need lead characters but they have made so many storylines essentially revolve around them 3 with the rest of cast playing second fiddle to them.

Back when Wendy Ritchie ran the show there were actually storylines with substance. I mean just from 1994-1995 alone there were 3 of the most memorable storylines General Hospital had....1994 - BJ's Death/Maxie's Heart Transplant Storyline, 1994-1995 - Monica's Breast Cancer Storyline, and 1995 - Stone's HIV+/AIDS Storyline. Now there is always some underlining-mob storyline and stories that could have substance always fall flat due to the lack luster writing.

Also there were storylines that would bring a good portion of the cast together and it wouldn't just be for a sweeps storylines, character deaths, and/or character weddings. Or they would at least have storylines where a good portion of the cast would be brought together because there were so many families on there...Quartermaine/Wards, Spencer, Hardy/Webber, Scorpio/Jones, and Cassadine. And the families weren't dwindle down to the small version of the families that are on there now.
