Please Help Identify an Episode

A sympathetic individual decides to help Kimble by confessing to the murder. Gerard points out that he obviously has both arms. He claims that his right arm was injured at the time and was in a sling under his jacket so he appeared to be one-armed. Eventually Gerard trips him up by asking what color dress Helen Kimble was wearing--and he guesses wrong.

Is it "May God Have Mercy" from season 2? A man learns he's dying, and once held a grudge against Kimble. After learning he was wrong, he decides to confess to the murder.

reply

Thanks, that may be it. I'll check it out.

Is that the one where the guy blames Kimble for his daughter's death, but the wife didn't? Kimble was out of town and couldn't treat her as she died...only we learn he had flown on his own dime to see some specialist for the girl?

Telly Savalas played the dad? Can't recall....

You're talking about two different episodes here. In one episode "Fatso" Jack Weston plays Davey Lambert who claims he killed Helen Kimble and that his wrist was injured at the time making it appear that he only had one arm. Gerard trips him up by saying the murder took place in Kimble's apartment instead of his house.

The other episode is the one with Telly Savalas "May God Have Mercy" where Gerard tries to trip him up by asking about the color of Helen Kimble's dress. He actually gets the color of the dress right. It's only when his wife talks to him in private where he admits he didn't commit the crime and Gerard is listening in on the conversation that his story falls apart.

Thanks! Now it looks like I have two episodes to look into. (Although I could swear in at least one the guy got the dress color wrong. But I saw it only once, and it's been many years.)

I just went through the episode guide in a book I have on the show, but it wasn't a lot of help. The synopsis for "May God Have Mercy" is the only one that specifically mentioned an innocent person falsely confessing, but the synopses are quite brief so it is possible that it occurred in more than one episode.

I just watched "Fatso" and loughsprng nailed it on that one. I'll have to find "May God Have Mercy" to catch the rest of it.

reply

Glad to know that you found it!
