Scream of the Shalka

Finally got around to watching this... if I'm honest, it kind of left me cold. Wasn't that impressed by Richard as the Doctor... I don't know if that's his performance or the somewhat stiff animation (or maybe both).
The story wasn't terrible or anything but it just didn't quite click for me, the stuff with the master was kind of ruined by him being a robot or android or whatever he was

For me, the voice performances were fine, the animation was passable, but it was the plot that failed to capture my interest.

I still wish REG had been given an official shot at the role - but that's just my inner "fanboy" talking... 

I've tried to watch this a few times, and get to the 3rd or 4th mini-episode and always get distracted or lose interest. I wish they had gotten the 8th doctor to voice this so at least there would be a little bit of continuity to this and the series. But I guess any Who is better than nothing, which was what fans had at the time.

When I read Paul Cornell's first novel, I hated it with a searing passion, and some of his other stuff rubbed me up the wrong way too. Cornell has been nice enough to me since, and I mostly enjoyed his TV Who work, but I've never felt any desire to sit through Shalka.

Every time I see him being interviewed he always seems like a bit of a dork... but then he is a science fiction writer so....
I enjoyed the human nature/family of blood 2-parter but father's day was the most ridiculous pile of blah this side of the burping wheelie bin

I'm glad we agree on Father's Day, which I felt violated too many Who rules. After the story got going, it was a little better, but I didn't like the setup at all and it was very un-Doctor like for him to show Rose her father get killed. And then again.

I get a little sceptical when people talk about breaking the rules. The show has been breaking its own rules since The Space Museum.
