Twin Dilemma

From First to Worst
OH NO! THIS? is thhe 6th Doctor? I can not even imagine a pre teen watching the Doctor regularly, and what they must have thought seeing Peri being choked by Colin
The story line itself, could have been fun, the twins were rather mis used though I thought. It was just the way Colin acts, (ok how he's written) just is so over the top. Way to mean at times. I almost expect to hear Peri say, I have had it with you, after this is over, please take me home The villain was funny, and some of the other's were not done well, you could see skin under the costumes
I sure hope Colin's writing improves, how popular was this beginning, not so much I guess

From best to worst is more like it, as this utter piece of garbage was a show-killer for me, so horrendously bad as to defy all belief. Colin's performance was awful, I'm sorry to say, and I had no interest in watching him continue on playing Maxil Who, instead of Doctor Who!

Sad to say, this was goodbye...

He gets better. He's my second favorite Doctor after Tom Baker.

The last line where the Doctor states to Peri, "I'm the Doctor whether you like it or not" is followed by twisted smiles between them. It doesn't sit well and certainly isn't a good way to end the season. Based on the ending I can imagine viewers not wanting to tune into Attack of the Cybermen as it sort of sets up for the next season the 6th Doctor being mean to Peri and her masochistic mind being ok to stick around the Tardis. Very weird viewing.

Total garbage, and it would be total garbage regardless of any other Doctor being in it.

I can never get past 'W'omulus and 'W'emus.....

Sorry. 

That said, Twin Dilemma is still a worthy purchase on DVD if only for the thankfully self-mocking commentary for the story where Baker, Bryant and a thoroughly entertaining Kevin McNally are never not aware that it's a total turd of a story!

Said commentary is also notable for Nicola Bryant's rather bemusing 'revelation' that she was portraying Peri - a single carefree girl yet Bryant was married in real life at the time....

If memory serves she mentions this curious fact more than once too. I'm not sure why really. Is it formidably difficult for a married actress to portray character who's not married or something?

Odd.

I haven't seen this story in 20 odd years... not because I'm avoiding it, I just haven't got around to buying the dvd yet

Well when you do buy it watch it with the commentary on from the off as your viewing experience of the story will be considerably more pleasurable as a consequence!

As I say, McNally in particular is one cheeky sod!

I don't know what it is about Classic Who commentaries but based purely on those that I've personally listened to the general rule of thumb appears to be the crapper the story the more entertaining the commentary for some reason....

Strange, though these things are infinitely subjective of course.

it seems to depend on who you get, I always find the Hartnell era commentaries with Bill and Carole-Ann to be a bit ho hum, there's usually a lot of "oh aren't the effects brilliant" and Carole-Ann complaining about how little her character got developed.
By contrast Colin is never anything short of entertaining

The Twin Dilemma was effective in shaking up the audience up over the regeneration. Everyone doesn't know what to expect. We see hints of The Doctor we know and love, but something nasty too. Will he be nice, mean, is this still The Doctor? Wait and see. HAVING SAID THAT. This should not have been the end of the season, leaving the viewers NINE MONTHS with this as the last image of The Doctor. That was very poor thinking on John Nathan Turner's part. That and the awful coat helped cement bad blood with the viewing audience. Colin Baker is a great actor, and I will always think of The Doctor from his tenure as what we see in The Trial of a Time Lord. A far better and fully realized version of what he was supposed to grow into.

Yeah I have to disagree there. There are some great commentaries for stories that are well regarded. Also I don't remember them on The Twin Dilemma commentary mocking the story. I do remember Baker making fun of the twins but that's about it. What was a great moment was Baker explaining to McNally Eric Saward's backstabbing. McNally didn't know what to say! 
