Timelash

and the Time corridor. A nasty ugly villain the Borad, and a world that seems to live mostly in fear.
An interesting way in which the Doctor goes back in time and meets H.G. Wells, as a young man and he tags along.
Another story in which Peri gets to be caught, tortured and threatened with death unless the Doctor complies. The acting was good on most parts, even to where HG seemed to want to know Peri a bit better, even though for once, Peri wasn't dressed for the beach

This was not bad as stories go, and after watching the Two Doctors, I really enjoyed a story about the Doctor using his wits to outsmart the villains. His moving time 10 seconds so he was in 2 places at once was brilliant.
Colin's Doctor is settling in. Just too bad they seemed to have changed Peri from being brash and fun, into just another bait for the villains

blimey! you'll be finished with Colin's run by the end of the week at this rate!

Another polarising story, I generally like it, by only gripes would be
- takes a while for the dr and peri to join the action
- that bloody puppet ambassador
- it kind of disturbs me that the doctor defeats the Borad by mocking his physical appearance... people have accused Colin's doctor of being a bully and sure enough, here he defeats the Board by picking on him and calling him names.

That all being said, like the production design, the Board looks great, Paul Darrow is insane, I like the interplay between the Dr and Herbert and it's quite cool to have the references to the previous story that never happened.

How the heck did the doctor escape from the middle in space I guess he moved out of time or something

I mean missle

Don't you mean missile? (Third one's a charm...)

So this is permanence, love's shattered pride.
What once was innocence, turned on its side.

Once again, a refreshing take on a story. This is a serial that tends to get slated by fans, but it's nice if you can see it without any preconceptions. I remember finding it a lot of fun at the time.

to a certain extent this is the fate of most classic who companions, but yeah now you mention it she did kind of become the eternal victim under Colin... their relationship is a bit better by trial of the time lord but even then...

I'm rather fond of Timelash, but it is perhaps best appreciated after the pubs have closed. And with the commentary on.

Just a painted face on a trip down suicide row

I know I'm in the minority but I do feel that Timelash best represents the tone of how Doctor Who should have been that season and so I feel is the best story from that year. The script is great (thanks to no tampering by Eric Saward), what let it down is the production. There are still some nice things in it and if forced to choose which story to watch from that season I'd not hesitate to pick this one.
