The Power Of The Daleks animation

Anyone else think that the animation on The Power Of The Daleks is somewhat Terry Gilliamesque?

I've not gotten my import DVD yet to see the whole thing but from what I've seen in the previews, trailers, and elsewhere makes me think it was as if Terry Gilliam had learned Flash animation.

Not really, but i know what you mean, Gilliam used cardboard cutouts, This has stiff Flash animation bobbing about, one is a choice the other is a restriction of the budget.

Yeah, I've never been a big fan of Flash animation. It's gotten better, especially over the early years of animated children's programming using Flash. The only good Flash I've ever seen is on Bob's Burgers. In fact, I wasn't even aware it was Flash at first.

They do use Flash the animation in a similar look to Gilliam's I suppose. The characters move rather like the puppets Gilliam used. They had a very limited Budget and time, so I guess that was the best they could do under those circumstances. We were spoiled with the animation for The Invasion since they had a large budget left over from another project to put into The Invasion's lost episodes. I think The Power of the Daleks' animation is about as much as the BBC can afford for Doctor Who's lost episodes being animated without BBC Worldwide's funding like they did with the DVD releases. Given the limited resources, I was pleased with the result. I know they could get better animation, but that would mean money the BBC isn't able to spend.

Just saw the first 3 episodes of my imported R2 DVD.

While there is some Gilliamesque properties to the animation, it isn't widespread like I thought it might be. There are cases where when characters walk or turn that it invokes the Monty Python style. However, these instances were very minor.

All in all, given the budget and the limited time, I'm not too critical of the animation. There are a few too many squash and stretch moments that are more home in Looney Tunes. Characters who react by shrinking slightly and then popping back into place. However, these complains are minor. Still not a big fan of Flash animation and this animated release doesn't do anything to change my mind, though.

Here is what an animation studio can do for a television show using Flash animation with a proper budget. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs-dmlEDDkE

I still think the animation for The Power of the Daleks was good given the limitations, good, not great.

I've only been interested in the Flash in concert with the Justice League! As a solo superhero, running fast just didn't do it for me! 

Bob's Burgers is another good example of Flash. I wasn't even aware it was Flash at first until someone pointed it out to me. Usually, Flash stands out like a sore thumb to me.

I forgot about Bob's Burgers using Flash Animation. Some of the people behind Bob's Burgers have had a history of working with cheap computer programs like Flash. Loren Bouchard of Bob's Burgers goes all the way back to Dr. Katz Professional Therapist in 1995(I can't remember which program they used for that.) Yes, with the right financial resources, you can get some great results out of Flash Animation.
