In a word,No! It's poor , poorly thought out , that's even before the confusing ending that admittedly was not the fault of writers Pip and Jane. I don't want to give away a spoiler but it's illogical that the prosecution uses the evidence that it does in the first two stories against the Doctor, evidence that the prosecution should want to remain hidden given the revelation at the end . I can say no more. I do remember being disappointed at the time of this airing, after the hiatus to come back with his basically sealed Colin's fate.
Some parts of it are very good..... Even bits people seem to hate have good ideas, The main muder mystery basic story from 'Terror of the Vervoids' is good, everything else about it, from the script to the way it's filmed isn't.
It's probably the best plot line Pip and Jane Baker ever had.
And the opening effects shot that they spent all the series budget on still holds up brilliantly....
Unfortantly the whole 14 episode budget was spent on that one shot.
I've a lot of time for Vervoids, it's good fun, and the final story has some nice surreal moments. The first two stories have potential which they sadly don't then live up to, but again, they still have odd moments. All a bit hit and miss in total.
You made me remember the Vervoids; might pull out the tapes which have been sitting in a box since I recorded those episodes over 30 years ago! We'll see!
I am currently watching this serial, and instead of commenting on each individual story as I have been doing, I am waiting till I finish the entire 14 episodes. That said, If you want a picture of the 6th Doctor, you can't ignore this, it's way too important, whether or not the stories are not well written
It's weak in my opinion. I actually really like Colin Baker's Doctor (and season 22 is one of my favourite seasons) but the trial arc is a disaster and the individual stories in themselves aren't great. The only one I ever revisit is The Mysterious Planet.
If you were collecting the DVDs and had opportunity to buy it cheaper would you?
You're collecting them, so Colin's era won't be complete without it. If you can get any Doctor Who story slightly on DVD cheaper, than feel free to. I paid the normal price when it came out myself.

It has been ages since an x-files "is .... good?" thread
I was starting to get worried.
He's been off infecting the ST:TNG board for some time unfortunately
Has she been comparing Patrick Stewart's performance to Marlon Brando?
I actually like Trial of a Time Lord. It's at least an improvement over the previous season. Not all the stories are strong and I do find Mindwarp totally overrated rubbish. However at least the arc of the season has merit and it;s worth watching just for Terror of the Vervoids which is actually one of the most solid stories from Baker's era. His acting as the Doctor is the way it should have always been.

Trial would have been much better without the trial (y'dig?) but it's a pity that the original season 23 never happened. The ice warriors and Sil, while the celestial toymaker was setting up shop in B____

Yes, it was a bit of a trial.

Have you heard the Big Finish versions? The Toymaker one doesn't work at all, partly because it needs to be visual, and partly (I think) because there is no story. Some of the others are pretty good, though not amazing.
So this is permanence, love's shattered pride. What once was innocence, turned on its side. reply share
If I'm honest, I am still to listen to a single big finish audio production. I started listening to the first one when I was home sick but... I don't know, I think I'm more of a visual person, audio dramas don't really 'set me on fire'
