Revelation of the Daleks

Thanks to michaellevenson1 for reminding me I had not posted on this one.
This is one of the best of Colin Baker's serials in my book.
The only part I didn't like was the DJ, that interrupted the story in my eyes, even though they used him later to assist Peri
Peri was also used quite well, when we see her kill the mutant to save the Doctor, it's her first time actually being directly responsible.
The story basically comes down to Davros, who is shown to be more human than ever and the dalek supreme who now places itself above Davros.
All in all, this is one I will revisit again, when I ever finish everything, actually I only have 3 more seasons, as I have already watched all of NewWho

My second favorite Colin Baker story after Vengeance on Varos. Glad you like it, since you didn't like Varos very much.

Varos somehow reminds me of a bad film i saw years ago, but can't recall the name

VIDEODROME (1983) by any chance?

Went back to Videodrome, but don't think so, it's the ordinary couple watching the tv n then voting, just had a thought, is there a similar scene in any of new who?

Nothing springs immediately to mind, but I could be mistaken. I seldom watch a New Who serial more than once and even then I sometimes can't be arsed to pay attention to it after the first five minutes.

However, I never tire of Classic Who. Even some of the more questionable stories...

I remember Revelation featured some really terrible acting in particular the chubby women working at the funeral home, and the plot became somewhat overly complicated much like Resurrection. It's interesting that although the Daleks were used scarcely (unlike today) if you look at the "Davros" episodes from the 70's and 80's The bookends are considered great episodes, Genesis more so however the three in between are quite ordinary.

One great concept from the episode was the new Dalek "race" and the two "hating each others guts" as Ace put it, which continued up until season 5 of the new series when the Daleks IMHO became extremely wimpy.

It was another of those ones where the doctor and Peri seem to not show up until half way through the story and then don't have a huge effect on the multiple stories already happening around them. 

The best IMO Dalek story in the JNT era and not been bettered in NuWho either. Alexei Sayle seems to get criticism for his portrayal of the DJ , but I liked him in this ,as I did in other stuff he'd done. A funny comedian, sorry he's no longer on the circuit.
Clive Swift good too and of course William Gaunt from The Champions.
Raventhom you're nearing the end of your Dr Who trek , are you a fan of Blakes7?
Made by the BBC during Tom Bakers run as the Doctor and created by Terry Nation also scripts by Robert Holmes and Chris Boucher, and its available on youtube. Can you consid er doing this next?
We'd like that on the B7 board.

I'd say Remembrance craps all over Revelation

Davros surviving again and again got to be monotonous! The epitome of it being in "Journey's End!" They found yet another way to bring him back in this past season, actually holding the Doctor's sonic-screwdriver! 

The DJ was used for exposition and framing, but they could have just as easily cut him out. It just goes to show that he was a shoe horned in Guest Star. We can probably thank John Nathan Turner for that. I did like that his show was never being heard by anyone in the end, as there were no bodies in suspended animation to hear it in the crypt.

Revelation of the Daleks was a solid improvement over the last two Dalek serials. To think, this serial almost got made in Peter Davison's last year, but the BBC pulled the plug on it.

Sorry, I messed up, it was Peter Davison's penultimate year, the anniversary year. It was supposed to be the big story before The Five Doctors, but The King's Demons ended the season instead.
It was originally titled Warhead if I remember correctly. There were behind the scenes issues again(I can't remember what they were), and they had to cancel it.

Would that not have been resurrection of the daleks?

I've read in different places over the years that it would have been called either WARHEAD or THE RETURN. Apparently, its storyline would have been rather close to that of RESURRECTION OF THE DALEKS.

Of course I entirely agree.

Revelation of the Daleks for me just doesn't sit well. There's a lot of stuff I don't like about it although one of the so bad is good moments is when the DJ and Peri fend off Daleks with the concentrated power of rock and roll. 

Yea...still worth watching just to see Davros bitch about people he doesn't like when they're not around.

That's interesting because it's actually one of my favourites of the JNT/Saward era, and if it could win me over, I'd be interested to know what put you off about it?

Out of curiosity, do know if they released the script for it? I know they were ready to start production before it was stopped, so there should have been a completed script.

The only thing I'll say is it contains all the problems of the season as a whole. The sets look tacky, the tone completely uneven and fatalistic, too violent, annoying guest characters, too many silly things as mentioned before in previous post, characters making too many silly mistakes so they can die or move the plot along.

Timelash has a couple of those problems but for the most part it gets more right than wrong which is why I hold it up as the most worthy story of the season. I've never been one to hop on a bandwagon of hating or liking something anyway.
