Classic Who Favorites

First of all, let me say that Bill Hartnell IS the Doctor.
All the others that follow are very good regeneration's, and like all of you, I like some better than others. I might give Jon Pertwee a slight edge over Patrick, and Tom Baker, but those stand out for me.
I might have liked Peter Davison better, but for the story's and the lack of a strong companion, although Peri could have been given better lines
I liked both Colin and Sylvester, but neither of them got much to show, both having a season that was splintered in Colin's case, and all about the companion, (Ace) in Sylvester. Colin lost out on another season because of outside interference's, I think, and Slylvester? Well, not his fault the show ended, although whether a new writer would have kept him, or wanted his own we will never know.
Tom Baker, lasted a season too long for me, I was more than ready to see him leave
I totally enjoyed all of Patrick's time and was sorry he left when he did
Jon, although I liked all of UNIT, I was sorry that he was stranded on our little patch here in the universde, For a time lord, he was really hobbled. Jon's entire run was good entertainment though.
I can't say enough about the fisrt Doctor. He originated it, and without his personal stamp, it could have died on the vine. I only wish we could go back in time, and see every one of his serials complete as they were originally shown. So, I will go back in time, relive those years, and video tape them, yes Pat's too, all of the missing one's.

But then that's essentially a blueprint for what was to come (featuring the companion much more heavily) and I wouldn't say that Sylv's doctor was totally sidelined for those stories.
as to what would have happened there is a good doco on the survival dvd outlining some possible plans for the next season that never was, there were plans for Sophie and Sylv to both leave.
mind you, that could all be hindsight "oh yeah we totally would have done this this and that"

I watched those docs, and felt bad for Sophie, she could have been so much better, and I credit her for doing what she did w/ the role they wrote her into. Yes I have already seen all of "NewWho" so, I understand where you come from

The First is my favorite Doctor. Not only did he feature in the most Dalek stories for a Doctor, but he got to introduce both the Daleks and the Cybermen. Although just barely for the latter. I also liked the earlier interpretation of the character. A man who you couldn't necessarily trust. He was willing to risk Ian and Barbara merely for the sake of what he wanted in The Daleks. He was willing to simply toss them out of the TARDIS a few times, too. They mellowed out his character over time so he'd be a more likable hero, but I always preferred the crotchety old man with somewhat of a dark streak in him.

Well written. William Hartnell truly is the original and definitive Doctor when all is said and done.
Tom Baker, lasted a season too long for me, I was more than ready to see him leave
By any chance would the one season too long be the 1979 season?
I totally enjoyed all of Patrick's time and was sorry he left when he did
He did have a good run. Had he decided to stay, Wendy Padbury(Zoe Heriot) would have stayed on too. It would have resembled Jon Pertwee's first year, but with the Second Doctor and Zoe. I almost wish we got that instead of Jon Pertwee' first year.

My own personal Doctor Ranking.
1 - Patrick Troughton
2 - Tom Baker
3 - Sylvester McCoy
4 - William Hartnell
5 - Colin Baker
6 - Jon Pertwee
7 - Peter Davison
I know I will catch ire for disliking Jon and Peter, but they just never grew on me.

Actually, disliking Peter (though not a unanimous call) is pretty common, people view him as being a bit bland, and even divisive, sometimes unpopular docs like C Baker and McCoy will get rated above him as a sort of 'at least they were trying to do something' kind of vibe

I can't agree. There's too much going for Peter's era for me to dislike it.

The first four doctors are very close together in my affections, though it took me a long time to warm to patrick troughton (i was severely traumatised by William hartnell's departure). The next two i am somewhat cooler about, don't find them as appealing, i think I might have liked sylvester mccoy's doctor almost as much as the first four if i had liked his stories better, but i find most of them rather unappealing. Like you, i would love to have all the missing stories complete.
