THE Curse Of Fenric

More Germans, ah but this time, Viking ruins, Russians, and yes, Vampires, or Vampire like beings.
Fenric turns out to be an old old enemy of the Doctor, and they had played a deadly chess match, again challenged, the Doctor almost outwits Fenric but Ace, unknowingly gives away the secret. This entire serial is based on belief. If your faith is strong, you will prevail. I thought at once, the chess game was going to be like "The Seventh Seal", one of Bergman's great films, but a different turn, changed it all.
Not the best of Doctor 7, but watchable

Frankly, it's all downhill from here. 

Great story, well written.

The whole master plan of Fenric's with Ace nicely addresses the strange way she arrived in the future. It was all part of Fenric's plan. They were planning something akin to this back in the previous season with the chess game The Doctor was playing in Silver Nemesis. That game was more involved in the original script for Silver Nemesis before it was trimmed to three episodes, but they still kept enough in for this nice payoff.

The idea of Soviets being good guys would have been somewhat risque back then.

You didn't mention it, but did you get the sexual themes in the story? And Ace being reborn as if breaching through the uterus water at birth in the end. More McCoy era mixing heavier themes into Doctor Who.

Femme Fatale? Are you sure you are using that term right?

"and Ace's really weird flirting"

Actually, I think that's the one thing they got exactly right. From my recollections as a teenage boy, I could never figure out what the hell teenage girls where going on about... 

Fortunately, there were some older females about who were able to "clarify" things for me. 

Even as a any age Ace just wasn't that "tempting" Many other companions, yes, but at that time in that setting, sorry she just wasn't, at least in my eyes

reply

I was in my early teens when I was introduced to Ace, so I had quite the crush on her. She's still my favorite companion.

reply

I also really liked her... Right up until she insulted the Brigadier in BATTLEFIELD.

After that, I never quite felt the same about her again.

My favourite ever episode - as you might have noticed

"My favourite ever episode"

Which one?

The first, second, third or fourth?

Personally, I like the entire serial, not just one individual episode of it.

Hurrah for pedantry! But I would like to see the return of the word "serial".

So this is permanence, love's shattered pride.
What once was innocence, turned on its side.

Don't mind me. I've always been a bit fussy.

Note, I wasn't being sarcastic. Pedantry can be a lot of fun!

Oh, I do enjoy it. But that might be because I'm a bit too fussy from time to time.

And I'm pretty sure that anyone who knows me in the real world just rolled their eyes and said, "Well duh!" 

I totally enjoy every single minute that could be said to belong to the cohesiven storyline known as 'The Curse of Fenric'.

That just means you've got good taste.

And thanks for including "The" in the title. 

It probably doesn't help that JNT's dog Pepsi decided to make a cameo in the background shot. 
