The Aztecs skipped on Retro TV
Seems Retro TV's package doesn't include The Aztecs. Probably because there was a special edition DVD just a few years ago and the BBC wants to still try and sell that?

shareIf I remember correctly, the only difference between the original DVD release and the special edition DVD with regards to the actual program is the fight scene at the end. The Original release has an awkward shot where the edge of the set is very clearly visible, digitally fixed to make more set to fill in the space. The special edition has it restored to it's imperfect natural state showing the edge of the set(of course there are a ton of special features added in the special edition.)
I don't see that being the reason for not showing it. Maybe it is because it is a historical adventure.
BBCA has the rights to it. I remember telling you in an earlier thread that they had rights to somme stories (or did I? Hmmmm). Well anyway, as part of the 50th anniversary celebration, they showed a story from each Doctor, and this was the First Doctor story they showed. It's a shame that all of Doctor Who isn't in one package - or that BBCA hasn't aired The Aztecs since 2013.
shareYou may have said it before, but I don't remember. But, that's the ravages of being over 40.
Was The Aztecs the First Doctor story chosen for the Revisited R1 DVD series? That may also have played a part in it.
Funny; "The Aztecs" was 1 of a few novels I read back in the 80's before vids being offered on PBS here in Chicago! I really liked the book and the episode when I saw and taped it a couple years later in '86!

Sort of like how in 1986, I found my local library had, in its kids' section, the novel of Genesis Of The Daleks. I immediately swiped it up and checked it out. After I read it, I later finally saw Genesis in 1988 on PBS.
They also had The Time Warrior and The Meddling Monk.
E:FC? Would that be Earth: Final Conflict? I really liked that show. Well, the final season I won't comment on, though.
"E: FC" was all over the place crazy, but I taped them thru the finale and created a blog page! That last season was truly something desperate! At least it did finish of sorts; having to "suspend all disbelief!" They tried to resolve just about everything; even if it meant bringing characters back from the dead!

They were sort of bringing characters back from the dead before. In season 4, I think it was, David Hemblen's character came back from beyond as a computer avatar.
David Hemblen was why I started watching the series to begin with. I've been following his career since one of my favorite shows, Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future. Both CP and E:FC were Canadian productions, so that's how Hemblen got attached to E:FC.
I just saw The Aztecs for the first, finding someone who had a VHS of it.
I didn't think I'd like it, it being a historical, but I wound up thoroughly enjoying it. It was a nice chance to get to see Barbara shine on her own in a story. And the story surrounding it was quite entertaining, too.
I don't know how accurate it was, but if Barbara was right that the Aztecs did not have the wheel, I learned something new from this story.
She's flipping good in that, isn't she?
