Jimmy Hammond

How did John Davis Chandler -- the great Peckinpah stock company villain -- get killed in this film? As they run from the shootout on the mountain, Elder Hammond tells Billy and Henry 'You got two brothers dead'. We saw Sylvis get killed by Longtree in that scene -- but how did Jimmy get it before that? Deleted scene...?

It's been a while since I saw this, a few weeks, I think, so I don't remember every detail. I'm fairly sure he was one of the ones waiting to ambush them when they returned to her father's farm. All three of those brothers or however many of the bunch remained were killed there.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

No, Jimmy was the first one killed, before Silvis. It happens pretty quickly.

Wait, we'll shoot 'em when they raise up.

Ain't you got no sense of family honor?

I've always enjoyed the work of John Anderson (Elder). He was in zillions of Westerns, was the car salesman in "Psycho" and Kennesaw Mountain Landis in "Eight Men Out." Great voice and great at playing staunch believers.

Just watched it again. Right you are - killed by Heck with a pistol before he and McCrea find out their rifles are empty.

I'm also a fan of John Anderson. Another great Western supporting actor. Yes he had a distinctive voice and played principled characters right or wrong. Never gets enough praise IMO.
