i LOVE this movie. let me just put that out front. i've heard that the dinner scene, after everyone has left and it's just anne and helen left, that during one of the takes the set wall fell and missed patty by INCHES. she was so into her role of being blind and deaf that she didn't even flinch! now this is only what i've heard. can anyone verify it? every time i watch it, i think of that.
shareI read in "Call Me Anna" that during the run of the Broadway production, a loose stage lamp came crashing down and she didn't flinch. She did, however, out of sight of the audience, grab the haunch of the dog lying next to her, sending him off yelping.
Now that's acting!
Anne Bancroft also broke a few of her ribs during one of their performances on the stage during the scene of the fight during breakfast. She finished the scene and the rest of the play AND did the evening performance! With broken ribs!
