Well-Deserved Oscars

Having just watched this again this evening, I'm thinking of how well-deserved the Bancroft and Duke Oscar wins were (forgive me, Bette!) - it's so fitting that both performances one, because to have rewarded either one but not the other would have missed the point of [what used to be known as] "supporting actress" - Duke and Bancroft play brilliant against and with each other, each role extending into the other. I don't think this occurred again until Holly Hunter and Anna Paquin won for THE PIANO.

I was also reminded of John Mills' Oscar-winning turn as the village idiot in RYAN'S DAUGHTER - until I finally saw this film recently I'd somehow never been aware that he doesn't speak a single word in the entire film!

"I AM big - it's the pictures that got small!"

Yes, I agree with you. This movie is awesome as well as Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke. They deserved the Oscar but I'm sad that Bette Davis lost for Baby Jane. Anne Bancroft deserved the award, though.

Bette deserved the Oscar & should have won it but Anne winning it was not a bad choice.. Oscar committee has made much worse decisions
