The hilarious payoff

If you're not paying attention, you'll miss the payoff of that amazing fight scene between Annie and Helen over eating with a spoon. When Annie comes out and tells them that Helen ate from her own plate and folded her napkin, as Annie's going upstairs to rest, the housekeeper tells her that dinner will be ready soon. The meal Annie had been trying to get Helen to eat...was BREAKFAST!

how is that hilarious

reply

Because it means it took her the entire day just to get her to eat with a spoon and now she's looking at another meal. Geez, you are simpleminded.

duh..yeah, the scene is a real "funny". How embarassing for you

Like this needs to be explained? That goes without saying to anyone who saw the film? I knew this when I saw at 10 yrs of age. Question WHO the simpleminded one is

Question WHO the simpleminded one is

Well, I'll tell you who the simpleminded one is. It's the one who says "duh" when he answers a question.

You say you saw it at 10 years of age. When was that? Two years ago?

reply

oh dear..from the mouths of babes. What a dissapointment.

I think the simpleminded one is the one who doesn't know how to use the quote function. Why do you need to be so rude to a complete stranger?

Why Richard, it profits a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world... but for Wales?

reply

Coy Dog, ay I ask who is being rude?

By the way, love your sig line!

"Happily, there were witnesses."

reply

Simplemindedsonciety is being rude. I see it all the time on IMDb and it drives me nuts.

Thanks, A Man for all Seasons in one of my favorites.

Thanks, I wasn't sure. Off topic, what a movie! Paul Scofield's voice, and even at the last minute, the devastating putdown that Rich couldn't forget. What a cultured way to ruin his triumph. Loved it!

It didn’t take the whole day, only until what we call lunchtime. In this instance, their “dinner” was the midday meal, served at noon.

reply

Or two or three o'clock. Remember, well off families always ate supper late in the day so their lunch was late as well.
But I got the joke too. She had wrestled with the kid for hours and I'm sure the last thing she wanted was to eat again -- and have another fight with Helen again.
