Played a little girl in this movie

Isn't Helen supposed to be about 6 in this movie? Why is a 15-year-old playing her character, I guess she was short at the time but she looked alot more like a 6 year old at 12 than she does here.

I hope that there is an Evangelion video game where you can beat Asuka up!

The trivia section for this film states:

Although Patty Duke had been playing Helen Keller in the play for more than year, she almost didn't get the part in the film adaptation. The studio felt that being a teenager, she looked too old to play a seven-year-old. However, they decided to use Duke after deciding to use Anne Bancroft, who played Duke's original Annie Sullivan in the play.

I don't think Helen was supposed to be 6, but somewhat older. Born in 12/1946, she was 14 at the time of filming

I agree on both counts. One, many think she was 16 because 1962-1946 = 16, but Duke's birthday was in December, and films tend to be made the year before release. I didn't look up to verify when this was made, but my guess is she really was 14.

Then the issue of Keller's age. Yes, Anne first met Keller before Keller turned seven that year, but this film never claims she is six. As the most recent post says in this thread, it's not a documentary, and ultimately the story still works well even if Duke clearly could not pass for Keller's true age the first year she worked with Anne. I'm often particular about such things, but when adaptations are done well, facts being altered do not hurt the integrity of the project.

Didn't matter in the big scheme of things.

The production didn't come across as a documentary.

As a story however, the thing totally works.

Great craft here from all involved.

Pffft, my suspension of disbelief has higher standards than that.

Totally agree.
