Why does everyone say she was 14 when this movie was filmed? She was born in 1946 and the film was made in 1962, making her 16. She looks older than her age, though, which is a good thing because if she looked 16 or younger this film would have been hard to have watched.

She was born in the summer of 1946 and the film is listed as summer of 1962 so I'm trying to figure out why everyone is saying she was 14 during the time it was filmed. That seems to be a big issue for people. She would have been 15-16 during the filming.

shareLo was 12 at the beginning of the story and just shy of 18 when he saw her the last time. Most of the events in the story-line take place when she was 14 which is more than likely why a teen around 14/15 was cast.

Why the film took almost a year and a half to be released after filming wrapped is anybody's guess, but those are the facts. I'm not sure but it may be a Kubrick thing--perfectionist as he was. I do know that 2001: A Space Odyssey was filmed in 1966 but not released until 1968.
