This is something I recently noticed upon my most recent re-watch of the film; it is very similar to how whenever an orange appears in The Godfather, something bloody and dark is about to take place.
One of the many reasons why this is such an amazing film, there is always some profound detail the viewer picks up on with each viewing and it adds another set of elements to how once views the story as a whole.
