This has always been a mystery to me as I love this film so much. After the rapids scene when Lilith and Eve bury their parents, no mention is made of the fate of their younger surviving brother Zeke, played by young Bryan Russell. Did he remain with Eve on the Ohio farm? He was never mentioned or shown again.

I always wondered that myself, later in the film when the Civil War takes place and Linus and Eve's son Zeb decides to enlist Eve goes out to her parents gravesite and there's two more tombstones. One can't help but wonder if the two brothers died or Linus and Eve had two more kids that died?

I read both the book and the script about 10 years ago, the book was based on an early version of the script and the Yellow Stone Scenes based on the script is a short story in some western anthologies. The whole process was organic, the relationship of Zeb and Julie was changed and re filmed with a different actress and the whole last section with the outlaws was a late edition to the movie after filming was almost done

First Juie the woman Zeb Rawlings marries is the half Indian daughter of Jethro the mountain man, she had been living and working in the rail road camp ware the Zeb and Jethro story starts
The body of a dead rail road surveyor found by Jethro is Samuel Prescott(the older brother who broke his leg)but no one concerned realize it
Sometime after Zeb Marries Julie, Jethro is camping in Yellow Stone when he meets an outlaw gang who comes and shares his fire. While they talk one of the outlaws Zeke Prescott (the sick little boy) and Jethro realize they are In-laws. This is the same gang that had runs in with Zeb when he was a law man so they had a beef with Jethro as his friend and were now leary of Zeke even though he had been with them for a bit. In the fight Zeke and Jethro are killed by the outlaws

I'm glad I had a chance to see your post, since IMDb has seen fit to delete all the comments older than a year. I wonder why they do that? This is an epic film and people still watch it regularly.
So, is that what is assumed happened to the lost brothers? I don't quite follow where this was supposed to happen.
But also, whatever happened to Eve and Linus' other son who had the farm where Karl and Agnes died? I actually thought everyone was travelling back there at the end of the movie.
Also, how did it work back then, whoever settles down it's their land? And you have to defend it otherwise it's take away from you by whoever wants to rob you?
He grew up and became president of the Prescott Raft company.
