Has anyone watched this on a Curved 4K television?

Given that this was projected onto a curved movie screen, I'm curious about how the blu-ray would look on curved tvs, particularly the Smile-Box presentation.

Yes would be interesting to hear. The DVD Smilebox version looked great on my conventional tube TV, fwiw. For that matter so did the regular version. Smilebox obviously just simulates a curved presentation, and I would imagine its taller at the ends narrower in the middle shape wouldn't quite fully fit an actual curved screen. I wonder if the regular (DVD/Blu-ray) HTWWW version would appear a little distorted shown on a curved TV screen- but you'd think because the film was originally shot expressly for a curved screen presentation it wouldn't...

Someone posted a still from the smilebox version and I was really impressed with that. I can imagine how impressive it would look on one of those TVs.

I don't think the Smile-Box version was meant to be shown on a curved screen. It's really meant for a flat screen so the simulation would be correct.

The secret for making the Smile-Box version look like real Cinerama is the blow it up as big as you can. I watch the Smile-Box version on my 106" projection system and its absolutely amazing!

What really should happen is for them to release a 3D version. Not convert the movie itself to 3D, but to create a 3D effect that gives you the curve screen like it's coming out into the living room.

One thing I've often wished they'd do on DVD with this and other roadshow movies is simulate an actual theatrical experience: audience noise beforehand, a brightly lit curtain when the overture starts (instead of a still that says "Overture"), then the lights dimming and the curtain opening. The same with the intermission, Entr'acte, and exit music.

I agree. That would be cool. Actually the other Cinerama Blu-Rays have that sort of thing (Those are also in Smilebox).

VR or head mounted display is probably the closest to what the original audience saw. Might not be full resolution, but resolution is always lost through projection.

That being said, audiences then in a real theater with balconies and plush carpeting would not have created that much noise, if I understand you properly.I have for years thought that the soundtrack play to get one in the mood. Wishful thinking? It would not be that difficult to accomplish. Just record what musical choice would be best suited and have it on the track void of any imagery.
