A bit dated, but still very good WWII movie

I really enjoyed it, mainly because of Steve McQueen. He was fantastic. It was a bit dated and you can hear the echo from the sound stage. But the final battle is great. Really good WWII movie, I recommend it.

This movie is 50 years old and still holds up! A first rate war film.

I agree. Also don't forget that it was made on what was basically a television episode budget (perhaps a little bigger than that - say two episodes?). However I liked it so much that I bought the DVD.

This war picture aficionado agrees that "HIFH" has aged very well and is a treat to watch. Don't expect it out on Blu-ray anytime soon so had to purchase the DVD as well.

I respectfully couldn't disagree with that more. I will concede that, for it's time, it was good, but right after watching HBO's "The Pacific" I got this from Netflix, and everything from the acting to the sets made it look almost corny. The Pacific was a truly hard series to watch it was so disturbing and realistic. I guess it's just the growing sophistication of audiences that are leaving a lot of older movies behind...

I just learned how to use the "Spoiler" button...

I think technology and directing has left movies like this in the dust. Ya there were some good performances (McQueen & Parker & Darin & Coburn) but this film at times felt corny. Think about that final scene ... or the multiple of times when men got hit and yelled "augh." And that Homer character???
