Every cliche in the book, gratuitous animal/travelogue shots, horribly out of date animal catching methods and a very beautiful leading lady with limited acting ability - or maybe that is down to Howard Hawks?
But it was fun and I enjoyed it so why pick holes.
Yes well I would imagine the standards then, for animal treatment, were very different. That's not to say they purposefully mistreated the animals but it looked as if they were.
The stunts looked real...but they could not have been. Much too dangerous.
Whoever they had stunting for J.Wayne was incredible. If it was real I would think everybody came away hurt.
This is not a typical Wayne performance. he did a little comedy, had some sexual interest, didn't hit people who were set up and appeared to work hard. After this and the picture with Otto preminger he appeared to check out and do routine stuff.
I saw this movie as a kid ... way back in the last century, it is great.
I was thinking about it because I keep seeing on a streaming channel
in my TV. So great and funny.
