Prophetic?

Has it occurred to anyone else how many many Martian probes, both US and Russian, have failed shortly after reaching Mars? This is especially strange, given the harsh conditions experienced by other interplanetary and intergallactic probes.

I am reminded of the Martian Chronicles where they mentioned that if the probe had of landed only a few miles away it would have discovered a lot more.

It sucks to be me for so many reasons

Only 1/3 of US probes to Mars have succeeded. A cautionary tale concerning our current state of preparation for exploration beyond low earth orbit. Ironically, the US rate of success of deep space probes to Jupiter and beyond is much higher than our attempts at Mars. Eerie?

More pathetic than prophetic -- the rubbish flick that is.

It WAS pretty lame. So much so that it took me about the entire length of the film to remember I watched this when I was a kid.

14 years later, and we have three rovers on Mars that exceeded their life expectancy. Several countries now exploring Moon & Mars.
