West Side Story and the Covid-19 Virus:

Since all the movie theatres are closed right now, and I don't have a DVD or Blu-Ray player, I recently purchased a copy of the original 1961 West Side Story film version on demand from AMC Theatres. Since I'll be watching it more than once on my computer, I purchased it. It's not the same as seeing in the movie theatre, or on TV, but it's something, anyhow. What are other people on here doing during this horrific time of the Covid-19 virus? Just curious. Would love some feedback, here. Since my TKD dojang that I normally go to has also been shut down for awhile, there have been some on-line virtual TKD classes that I've been attending--and, like lots of other people in our dojang, working out from home, on our computers. It's not the same as being in the dojang, but it's something better than nothing.

I’m actually watching it tonight. I’ve been watching old flicks on YouTube and TCM while ‘sheltering-in-place’. Also, reading, gardening, and catching up on sleep.

I watched West Side Story the other night on my computer. It's not the same as watching it on the great big, wide screen in the cinema, with the lights down low, and sharing the whole experience with a whole bunch of other people, but it's better than nothing. Since what's happening will be going on for awhile (although I hope for not too, too long.), and all the movie theatres are closed temporarily, it was worth purchasing the original 1961 film version of West Side Story as an on demand thing to watch on my computer, so I'll have it.

As for my Tae Kwon Do dojang, it's a real community for me, and other people feel likewise, having the online virtual classes where people work out at home, and get instructions from instructors on their computers using zoom.us is worth it, plus it's helped keep me from going totally stir-crazy, as has walking, knitting, giving TLC to my pet Congo African Grey Parrot, Aziza, and listening to music.

I have West Side Story that I can watch when i feel like. Take care. all the best.

I will say this.
Its a great and fun film with absolutely great music.
I'm old enough to have first watched it on a 24" screen, so I don't feel bad about your watching it on your computer, especially that in 2020 you can get a connector that you can watch it on a bigger flat screen tv.

Unfortunately, I don't have a DVD or Blu-Ray dvd player, nor do I have the DVD's themselves. What kind of a connector can one get that would enable a person to watch it on a bigger TV? A curious, inquiring mind wants to know. I love the original 1961 film version of West Side Story--it's my all time favorite movie, hands down. I plan on voting my pocketbook and boycotting Spielberg's version of it (inotherwords, not going to see it.), when it comes out at Christmastime of this year., regardless of what anybody says or thinks.

If both your computer and your TV have an HDMI port, you can connect an HDMI cable between the two and be able to watch it on your TV.

There's no substitute for seeing this in the theater, large screen and surround sound. I saw it in the roadshow days and it was fantastic great soundtrack. Bought the Blu-ray version a couple of years ago. While the TV screen was only 46" the sound on the HT system was great.

That's very true, old3eyes! Every time the original 1961 film version of West Side Story comes to a movie theatre either in my general area, or within reasonable driving distance from where I live, I make a point of going to see it. In fact, I've even made special road trips to the opposite end of the Bay State, or to neighboring states just to see the 1961 film version of West Side Story on a great big wide movie theatre screen, if it's not playing in my general area at the moment. Regardless of what other people say, nothing beats seeing WSS on a great big, wide screen, in a real movie theatre, and sharing the whole experience with other people, whether one knows them or not.
