It is coming to TCM on Monday January 21, 2008 at 12:30 P.M. EST!

I know I may be early but it is good to get ready. Don't miss the chance to not see this great movie if you haven't already seen it. And that great musical scene with Paul Newman, Sidney Portier and Louis Armstrong and the rest is terrific. Be sure to check your local tv guide for the time in your area. Enjoy!

watching it right now
its great. the music rocks!

..been dazed and confused for so long..

I'm watching it also. As a trombonist for over 40 years, Paul Newmans trombone "playing" is the best I've seen from an actor. From the slide vibrato to his embrochure and holding the horn, he certainly did his homework.

I'm watching it right now, and I absolutely LOVE it! I'm already wondering if there is a DVD, and if not, when it's coming out. If Sony (which I believe now controls the rights) is reading this, please please PLEASE get commentary from Newman, Poitier, Carroll, and Woodward while those wonderful actors are still with us.

I just finished watching it,
What an incredible film!
The style, the setting, the music, the characters,

A new favorite of mine,

but could someone clear something up for me,

Did the Poitier decide to stay in Paris for good with Newman?

reply

No, from what I gathered, Poitier's character had said that he needed to stay in Paris for a couple of weeks to take care of things before joining Carroll in the U.S. It was Newman's character who had planned to leave Paris that day with Woodward's character.

The filmmakers worked it so that they could get that final shot of Newman and Poitier walking off together as the sign with Louis Armstrong is painted over in the background. But we're to believe that Poitier later went to the U.S. to be with Carroll while Newman stayed in Paris.

oh ok, that makes sense. Thank you

A friend kindly ripped this from his DirectTV box and put it on a dvd for me. I quite liked it even though the story was fairly lightweight. The four leads are all amazing actors and the music was fantastic, as mentioned. And Paul takes his shirt off again! :-)

Just watched this movie tonight after DVR'ing it from TCM over the weekend and it has to be one of the sappiest, wannabe cool movies I've ever seen but I loved it to death. The atmosphere, the music, and the attractiveness of the four leads...WOW!!

It wasn't earth-shaking and I doubt future movie directors are studying it as pinnacle of movie magic but for a dual romance story with a jazzy background it's great. Newman and Woodward, Poitier and Carroll all seemed so in love with each other which wasn't hard because each couple was at the time. The ironic thing for me (SPOILER)is that while Newman and Woodward didn't stay together in the movie they did in real life while the exact opposit for Carroll and Poitier.

Solid movie and if I find it on DVD it definitely will be a date movie.

'Cause I'm Black you think I did it?
