Oh....they Got On My Last Nerve! (POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!)

I know we women fall in love so easily, especially with musicians....for obvious reasons....."Because music soothes the savage beast, and will slow walk him down;" but both the Joanne Woodward and Diahnn Carrol characters irritated me! Were they that naive about musicians, and what Eddie and Ram clearly stated and represented themselves as being expatriate died in the wool jazz musicians?

I know this is an intricate part of the story line...but GOOD GRIEF! With Joanne Woodward's character a mother of two children.....and Diahnn's character out of college about to embark on a career as a school teacher (not to mention being fully aware of the racism that Eddie spoke about; AND...the two of them traveling abroad from home/family, you would've thought they were just a tad bit more wise about the world. Shoot...musicians in American were/are very complex and totally addicted to pursuing their music! Were these two that naive? Did they have to come all the way to Paris to really, and truly fall in love? Were they not able to differentiate between romantic flings, with a romantic backdrop such as Paris? Had they not read any books about shipboard romances, etc., and in the heat of the moment infatuations? Or how about.....I might be crazy about him now.....but what happens when we get home?

OMG...the most important factor....when it comes to real, diehard, I got bass and treble clefs running through my veins...musicians.......EVERYTHING ELSE WILL COME LAST TO THEIR MUSIC! Notice...I didn't say second....I said LAST!

Ram...and Eddie....hurry up give those two ladies some sugar to remember you by...and send their naive little butts home on the first thing smoking!!!

I'm watching it right now - DVR'ed it last TCM showing - and all I can say is I think you might be confusing "reality" with "it's a movie from Hollywood!" ;-)

Have you seen "Winning"? Woodward gets her revenge (romantically) on Newman in that movie...

Maybe you're right.....just can't help it. I've been watching this movie for years....have it on VHS, I don't have it on DVD yet, so it was a treat to see it. It is one of my very favorites.....because I am an old school die hard jazz music/history lover....and love any movies dealing with jazz culture domestic or abroad. From my first viewing of this movie, many years ago; I was irritated with them even then. I guess that's what a really good movie is supposed to do....make you think, feel, protest, cheer, etc.

I haven't seen "Winning".....I'm not a big race car movie fan, but I will check it out. I LOVED Paul and Joanne in "Long Hot Summer."

I guess I'll just have to try and get over it. Funny, because I still scream, 'that little girl needs a good spanking' at "The Bad Seed," every time I see it; just as I did more than 50 years ago as a little girl myself....LOL!

Well, I am about as much an auto racing fan as I am a historical jazz music fan - OTOH, I am a pretty big Newman/Woodward fan. ;-)

I don't know if you like modern "electro" jazz or not but I thought the music in the Dutch movie LelleBelle was pretty great.

This is a movie also about "dedicated" musician/students with a much more modern and actually European sex/romance theme. Quite a bit different from any 1961 movie.

Not familiar with "electro" jazz....I tend toward traditional/modern jazz. Was Miles Davis starting to play "electro" jazz prior to his passing. Some of what he was doing the last couple of years of his life, in my opinion, was very avant garde and a little off the beaten path of commercial jazz.

It's a genre of techno pop - and I am not a real big fan of techno dance (rave) style music - but I like some of the more jazzy/bluesy progressive melodic improv (even "fake" improv ;-).

Check out the old Free "All Right Now" rock anthem as played by the electric strings of Ed Alleyen-Johnson. Some of the music in Lellebelle had the same feel to me.

I just watched it and I agree! Both female characters got on my nerves and I was hoping that both relationships would end. That's a first time I felt that way about lovers, normally I'd want people to be together but these matches were no good.

EXACTLY!

Love your signature......just finished watching WHTBJ on Demand. That line as Bette Davis delivers it has such a harsh finality to it.....and seeing your signature...I just had to respond...LOL!

Thank you. It's one of my favorite movies 😂 and I never get tired of watching it. As I get older I find myself identifying more and more with Jane Hudson and can understand why she was so hateful.

Is your signature from "What's Happening?" It sounds like something Dee would say. 

LOL...yes it is from 'WH'!

There is another source of inspiration.

About 30 years ago, I met Dexter King, youngest son of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Years later around 2002; Dexter King wrote about his life entitled...."Growing Up King." I went to an autograph signing to say hello, purchased a copy....and while reading it later at home.....howled laughing as I read how he and his siblings (if they got into any kind of trouble) would always tell each other....."Oohhhooo....I'm gon' tell mama!"

So in homage to the television show, the beautiful professional/working experience I had with Dexter King....and because I remember saying these very words to my own 4 brothers (because I thought I was the boss of them)....I used this as my signature....LOL!

Thanks so much for asking.....brought back some wonderful memories.
