In 1992, when Ray Harryhausen received…

His honorary Oscar, they played the theme from this movie over clips from all of his movies. I downloaded the main theme and the balloon music from iTunes.

Herrman's score was, as usual, terrific.

"In my case, self-absorption is completely justified."

Bernard Herrman's scores for Jason and the Argonauts and The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad were better than Mysterious Island's IMO.

To be honest, though I liked both movies, the music for them doesn't stand out in my mind.

All three scores are excellent, but in a close call, I'd also name Mysterious Island my favorite.

When Harryhausen received that honorary Oscar in '92, Tom Hanks, who was hosting, whispered something to Ray as he was about to leave the stage. We couldn't hear it, but when Harryhausen pulled back he was smiling broadly and asked Hanks, "Really?!" Hanks then resumed his emcee duties and apparently told the audience what he had just said to Harryhausen:

"Some people say 'Citizen Kane', some people say 'Gone With the Wind', I say 'Jason and the Argonauts'!"

Yay, Tom!
