Another Reson for it's Importance..

Savate....the very idiosincratic French martial arts.

The scene in the gym where J & J are working out "Boxing"...they are practicing the french martial art Savate, in the background others are practicing a French stick fighting art Le Canne....Very interesting as there is v little footage* of these beautiful arts from this time period or before.

They were originated by French sailors and popularised by French "Gentlemen" in much the same way as Boxing in England....

"Savate" is from the french word for boot or old shoe..it "looks" like a french form of capoeira with boxing flung in and was undoubtedly one of the earliest forms of kickboxing....the art was almost lost during WW2.

*footage...this could be a bad pun!!

Very interesting!
