let me get this straight...

They should do away with the voting anyway. MOST of the movies on the list are ridiculous choices. There is a complete lack of inevitability about them, i.e. you can imagine that if we had computers and IMDB back in say 1970, there would be a lot of forgettable--and forgotten--movies from the 1960's on the list. In the same way, there are way too many movies from the last ten years ranking near the top for all of film history. (Do you really expect anyone with sense to agree that we are living in one of the richest periods of film history?) When someone calls into question the supposed greatness of one of these mediocrities, he is usually called a snob and is booed off the stage by a lot of people who say the movie made them cry or excited them more than something "overrated by academic types" like "Citizen Kane" or "Jules and Jim".
