I'm considering buying this...

I'm thinking about buying this without even seeing it. I've done this before with a few movies (Rushmore, Apoclypse Now) and was not dissappointed, but I'm not sure about Jules and Jim, since it is quite expensive. I tried renting it off of Netflix, but it's been sitting in the saved pile for months. I've been really into Truffaut recently (I got 2 books on him), but I have only seen the first three Doinel films. Some of my favorite movies that might be similar this, or any Truffaut, are The 400 Blows, Stolen Kisses, Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Lost in Translation, and La Dolce Vita. So, what do you say? Should I risk it?

Judging by your list of favorite movies, you should definitely risk it. Jules et Jim is an amazing film.

Just to clarify, a lot of the movies on your list happen to be some of my favorites as well, and Jules et Jim is one of my all time favorite movies. Truffaut's films are so unique (even compared to other French New Wave films), it's hard to find anything comparable today, especially in America. It's interesting though, because in my opinion, there is something about Wes Anderson's films that come the closest.

and you should also check out Shoot the Piano Player (also by Truffaut)

Definitely buy it. You'd be insane not to. It will change your life.
