Would you choose Jules or Jim?

I honestly think both men are too good for Catherine, not the other way around as I hear a lot of people saying. That woman was a crazy biotch, though her looks were enchanting not one second did I think she was a goddess as the two men and Truffaut would like us to think. Jules and Jim deserved better. I'm sure at some point in their lives they would eventually settle down without Catherine.

I'm more inclined to like Jules though. Jim seemed more boyfriend material but Jules was husband material.

I prefer the personalities like Jim - vital, independent, with a strong core and mild manners, one who can control his own life; the problem is his attitude towards women, similar to that of Catherine respectively towards the men. Jules seems to be his antipode - weak, passive, psychically dependant, one who accepts everything not because his heart of gold but for he values his own peace of mind more than anything else; obviously he was spoiled by his wealthy family; and thus his manners are somewhat rigid (you may clearly see it following his image carefully).

Although Catherine is rather unsympathetic, one should recognize her huge vital strength that "nurtured" Jules and Jim. She wasn't a "goddess", but both men needed her vitality as a psychic source.

Thanks for giving your opinion, I appreciate it. I like your psychoanalytic take on their love triangle, I'll take note of it the next time I watch it.
