Why not in top 250??

Probably 21 grams at 249th could make way for Jules et Jim?
or probably everyone should see this movie again and revise their votes...

inevitably, the movies with the MOST (as in total number) great ratings get ushered into the top 250.... not nearly so many folks out there under the age of 25 have even HEARD of French New Wave, let alone understand it (as witnessed by the other threads here).
Every time I see a poll, I can 90% accurately choose which will be the top vote getter, and it's usually one of the more current films on the list. To me, for instance Titanic should be nowhere near a top 10 list, let alone top 250.....
and yet, how many folks out there have seen The Stuntman? (one of my personal top 10s?)

c'est la vie....

Well the Titanic is no longer in 250 (thank god) but Passion of Joan of Arc is up there (164), there can't be that many people crazy about a silent film. Plus I would think that Jules et Jim would be more well known than Joan of Arc. For one thing, it's more frequently referenced judging by Movie Connection. You always find characters throwing in Jules et Jim as their favorite movie to show how cool they are.

What I'm wondering is that is this film misunderstood?

Have you ever seen Joan of Arc? It's like one of the best movies ever made...so just because it's silent doesn't mean that people shouldn't like it. I understand what you're saying though, considering most of the movies in the top 250 are geared towards more modern mainstream moviegoers, but still, never underestimate the power of a great movie, be it silent or not. And by the way, Jules & Jim is a great movie.

I was like that in my early IMDb days (been a member since 1998) - looking into the Top 250 every week or so - once you get your eyes over it and find out all the great films out there that are not in it, you will find out how biased it is. To me today it means nothing more than just hordes of fanboys (and -girls) who just mass vote their favourite movies to the top of the list. Personally I have nothing against Lord of the Rings and Star Wars movies, they are decent films but in no way do they deserve a place in the top 20. And speaking of Titanic, I still remember it being in at #3 at some point during 1998 - this should give you an idea of how accurate and well-thought this chart is.

By all means, do look at it occasionally but do not let it guide your movie choices. And don't take it too seriously :)
