Jules and Jim or 400 blows?
Which one of these movies do think is better and why? I'm wondering because I have not seen either of them, but I have enough money right now for one of them, and I dont' know which one to get.

sharejules and jim all the way. Somehow i could relate to it more than 400 blows and i felt a lot went into the character portrayal in jules and jim than 400 blows.
share400 Blows, no competition.
shareThough they are both extraordinary films, I suggest buying the 400 blows( I'm guessing you're picking up the remastered Criterion version correct?) first, and buying Jules and Jim some other time. This is only my opinion ofcourse, but 400 is more accessible and is one of my 20 favorite films of all time, whereas JULES is in my top 100. To me, the 400 blows is superior, and the new restored transfer from Criterion Co. is superb, so 400 blows is definately where your money should go to.

I like Jules and Jim much more and its criterion double DVD also is superb!
share400 Blows was a better film for me. Jules and Jim didn't really do anything for me - I am going to get killed but - I simply did not enjoy the movie. There were amusing moments here and there, though overall it fell short of expectations.
shareYou are not going to get killed my man; you will be agreed with.
I thought the 400 blows represented the adolescent years of most men in this world in that the main character is constantly conflicting with doing what is right and doing what is going to get him a desired outcome. Jules and Jim is as well a wonderful, but methinks that the bite is a little large, whatever the hell that means. Truffaut is definitely not holding anything back in this one, but it feels that there are holes in the character development.
Watch the 400 blows, as said before it's more accessible and in my opinion does a much better job at causing an effect on the viewer.

The 400 Blows!
Check out my film reviews: www.paleyfilms.net
Jules and Jim!
In the 400 Blow Truffault was preoccupied with his own persona.
Jules and Jim reflects his observations and thoughts about an other people, that is way more interesting.
Thank God, I'm an Atheist! - Luis Bunuel
I love both films, but Jules and Jim for me. I love almost everything about it, the acting, the score, cinematography, etc. Such an amazing film.

Definitely 400 Blows. Though I appreciated Truffaut's depiction of the friendship between Jules and Jim and the grown-up way that he explores how confusing love can be, the characters in Jules and Jim were not very relatable for me. However, it is impossible not to sympathize with Antoine Doinel, the child protagonist of 400 Blows. Truffaut has a lot to say about the way that some children are ignored and injured by society--the injustices against the young that Truffaut depicts in 400 Blows is similar to those in his later movie, Pocket Change (L'Argent de Poche). For this reason, 400 Blows is more significant as a piece of social criticism than Jules et Jim.
shareI've seen each once as well as Shoot the Piano Player. I liked The 400 Blows the most, but I have to admit that Truffaut just doesn't seem to resonate with me.
shareJules and Jim. It's not even a tough decision. I won't bore you with in depth analysis of my opinion, but you will watch both and agree with me.
shareI far preferred Jules and Jim.
shareGosh, I don't like buying DVDs because once I have seen something I don't want to revisit it for a while. But when I do buy one, I want it to be Significant, and now that I'm feeling a little more comfortable with my Finances, I am pondering going to my local Borders and getting the Criterion Jules and Jim. I remember seeing it once a long time ago and being a bit baffled but I do value the critical acclaim a film like this gets, so I'm curious to see it again.
shareI think I saw it on Kanopy through the library.
shareThis reminds of the time I asked how to convert a pdf into something usable, and someone said they use Adobe Acrobat, it's super easy.
And it's like telling someone this toy is So Easy To Assemble you don't need any instructions. So I went through all these steps to download AdAc and NO it's not that easy.. They want to up-sell at every turn and it's hard to figure out the navigation to do what you want.
So Kanopy through the library? Um ... thanks?
