Self destructs too soon

It pains me watching Eddie self destruct so soon in the film...I've never watched past the first beating done to Eddie by Minnesotta...Im gonna try to stick it out this time.

I did....great film

He self-destructed more than once though. Was it after losing to Fats 45 minutes in? After getting his thumbs broke halfway through the film? Losing billiards to Findley an hour 40 or so through the film? It's the life of a hustler.

The first time...when Minnesota freshens up and comes back to the table"like a baby boy" and takes back the 18k he had lost, plus another 4-5k.....
It was always unbearable to watch-which is just really a compliment to the acting being done,by Newman,Gleason and Scott.
I watched the complete film and was impressed by all.Piper was amazing...
All I could think was,why would someone try to make a sequel? No wonder Gleason passed on reprising his role. He knew even the great Scorcese wouldn't be able to catch lightning in a bottle,25yrs later.
Cruises performance in TCOM is embarrassing.
"The Hustler" is a film in a class by itself...

Yes, perhaps it's better to wait until the movie is complete before saying something took place "too soon." Glad you ended up enjoying it.

TCOM is a great movie, and Cruise was excellent. I haven't liked him in all his roles, but he was great as Vincent. Are you sure you gave it a fair shake? Hell, it took you several attempts to get through the first one.
