the guns in the film

I really like this movie. The only real inaccuracy I can see about this film is the guns used. First of all, this was supposed to be set in 1843. They were using Winchester repeating rifles and six guns. When repeating rifles weren't invented till the mid 1860's and the only kind of pistol that probably used at this time were one shot pistols, maybe the patterson pistol. Besides that this is a very good movie.

Not sure where the 1843 comes from, but, according to Melinda Marshall (Joan O'Brien) her husband was killed 4 years earlier at the Battle of San Jacinto. The battle occurred on 21 April 1836. This would place the movie's time frame as 1840, not 1843.

In the opening scene before the duel it says 1843 New Orleans.

Blind Freddie would be able to tell that virtually all the guns used throughout the movie weren't developed till way after 1843. I just don't know why they didn't date the film later than they do. I don't think it would have meant too many changes to the script.🐭
