Elmer Bernstein's Score

I agree. I have the CD too and I think Bernstein was right, this score is even better than The Magnificent Seven. But I guess that movie overshadowed The Comancheros and as a result the music never became as famous either. But it's terrific and deserves wider recognition.

Bernstein's score relates to a familiar melody

Sukiyaki, by Kyu Sakamoto (1963)- A fluke Japanese pop hit in the USA, seems to be partly based on the main melody. (aka: You Took Your Love Away From Me)

One of the great scores. I too have the FSM CD and it is one of my favorites of the era.

What the Comancheros score needed was to be used in a commercial for selling cigarettes- a Western theme. That would have made the Comancheros score much more familiar to the majority of people.

Agreed, the Comancheros score is one of the finest Western scores in movie history. I'm trying to think of one I like better.
