Im sorry about posting that comment before, but can someone please tell me why martha killed herself???

Have not seen this film in a while but what a great film.

Because she couldn't live with her feelings of love for Karen. She blamed herself for what had happened and she knew that Karen did not love her (in the same way) back.

How can one live when they believe that their love is wrong and has destroyed the life of the one person that they love?

You should have been listening a bit closer:
