If there was a remake

who would star in it?

I say Anglelina Jolie as Shirley McClaine's character and Gywneth Paltrow as Audrey Hepburns character.

I could see Gwyneth as Karen- but Angelina Jolie's sex life is too public and casting her as a possible lesbian who we're supposed to sympathise with might be a stretch- plus Angelina Jolie as a plain schoolteacher? I think Catherine Keener could be good- she reminds me of Shirley Maclaine for some reason. Or Charliza Theron. Reese Witherspoon could also make a good Karen- I think one of the important things about Karen's character is that she is supposed to be the wholesome happy straight girl- maybe so sheltered that she's totally oblivious to lesbianism- whilst Martha has a more cynical edge.

You do realize that The Children's Hour was itself a remake?

And I think this is one case where another version would be justified -- The Children's Hour is a very good film, but it still had to tip-toe around the big issue. If someone wanted to film a completely faithful adaptation of the play, I'd be for it.

I don't think there should be a remake. This film is great, and I doubt the remake could be better...or even taken as seriously as Wyler's.

If there was a remake, the film would be such a package deal, the casting alone would ruin the film.
Brad, Angelina, Gwyneth, Reese! Oh brother the choices for actors we have these days.
