If this were remade today

If this was to be remade, and if it were me (lol) I would be truer to the book and have the lead be gay, not romancing Holly, and an ordinary guy. The taboos of the 60's are not an issue anymore(we have new taboos, like #1:no racist sterotypes). Having said that I would cast Holly as the right age. Chloe Grace Moretz comes to mind-i could see her as the girl who does not fit in with her country roots and tries to escape. Jonah Hill as The writer aka Fred/Paul, technically Capote, who put himself in as the narrator could be the guy trying to crack this nut. And she goes to Brazil in the end... and he gets Cat (taboo#2:animal abandonment).
If it became a direct remake of the script as it was in 1961, naturally editing out the 1961 version of the Japanese that could be good. Just don't tiptoe around the real issues. Go back to the book and extract the real Yunioshi, a Japanese American, not a shameful "off the boat" caricature- and then cast George Takei perhaps or BD Wong who is younger. Paul the gigolo could be Jared Leto or Matt Bomer, maybe even Timberlake, and his "keeper" could be Vanessa Williams or someone who can project an older woman who is still very attractive and clearly wealthy enough to have this "hobby". She will have to be very different from Holly. Either way I think it would still be an interesting Character play.

I wouldn't watch a remake if it were anything like what you described but to each their own. I'm shocked this wasn't remade already, as hollywood remakes everything constantly.

If it was remade today Holly would be a black lesbian, and Paul would be a soy boy with a man bun and a scooter.
