MOREL'S INVENTION NOVEL

Someone told me that the entire idea for Mairenbad comes from the novel
"Morel's Invention" a novel by Adolfo Bioy Casares. In the book, a man isolated in an island, met a woman and many other people, but no one seems to look at him. He falls in love with the woman, and later, discovered a mechanism invented by Morel, which projected images of all those people, as holograms of those persons, recorded on discs by the same Morel, in order to live forever.
The novel was written in 1940, many years before of the laser-discs.

I found a very interesting article on this very subject:

Yes, I thought of The Invention of Morel when I first saw this film. However, there is an important difference, which is that the woman in Bioy Casares' novel is a kind of hologram, whereas in Renais' film, there is clearly physical and psychological interplay between the man and the woman. Even so, there are similarities between the two stories.

Let me guess about one thing: are all of you Argentineans? ;o)

I find this possible connection between the novel and movie quite exciting. I love Casares' novels. This only makes me want to see the movie even more.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.
