Muldoon's appearance

I have been watching Car 54 on YouTube and there are several episodes where the policemen criticize Muldoon's appearance. They say he is homely, unappealing to women and has a face like a horse. I don't think he looks that bad. In fact, I believe he is better looking than Toody or Schnauser. It made me concerned for the self esteem of the actor to have all of these negative things said about him.

Fred Gwynne was not conventionally good-looking, and had problems finding good roles throughout his career. He looked funny, and everyone was surprised when he gave an outstanding performance as Big Daddy in a revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Hah! Compared to Joe E. Ross, Al Lewis and company Gwynne was a Troy Donohue! Just saw an epiode with B.S. Pully as a guest star. Sheesh!

It was his personality more than looks than made him unattractive to women.
