The Stunts

The fight between the snake and the boys is most real struggle between an animal and human ever brought to the screen. And the tiger versus the dogs, I mean how did they film this? Whats the story behind it?

The DVD commentary is very informative and talks about all the animal stunts. The boys were taught by the snake trainer that if they felt the snake coiling around them, they had to put its head under water for it to loosen up. That's why Fritz is always holding its head ( and frequently dunking it under the water) throughout the scene.

The tiger versus the dogs was tricky, but they said that Walt insisted that the dogs make contact with the tiger.

Thanks but you are wrong. CGI is more subtle than you think

Especially in 1960...

reply

Wow, CGI has been around a lot longer than I thought.

reply

Yeah it's really just starting to surface now

Sorry, I am usually very sracastic myself and I am not sure if you are being sarcastic, but hte response to your post was correct. The snake and tiger were real, CGI wasn't even conceived of in the 50's

They obviously didn't just set the dogs and the tiger onto eachother.

In the fight scenes, the "tiger" looked no larger than the dogs. Very odd. Might have been a dog dressed up to look like a tiger.
