BLUE wedding gown?

Why in the world would a proper society girl get married in a blue wedding gown? I would think that would be completely unacceptable in those circles. Her bridesmaid looked more bridal than she did.

"Something borrowed, something blue...."

That JUMPED out at me too, and it was her first marriage

Truly!!!!

What the heck?????

Maybe because everyone knew that Mary St. John was a great big tart, and that a white gown would have been ludicrous?

reply

The outfit was thoroughly hideous into the bargain. From head to toe.

She looked like she had been caught in the middle of an explosion at the blue smurf factory.

That's a good question. Were the rules about proper wedding attire less strict and codified in 1960 than they are today?

I was wondering the same thing, watching his movie just now. From what my mom told me (born in 1942), anything less than a white wedding gown (even "off-white") was a signal that the bride was less than virtuous. I was very surprised to see they chose this color for a "society girl" from wealthy family. IRL, I feel like her parents would have forbid this color, regardless of her personal reputation or preference.
