I would like to buy the mp3 of this track, but it's not available on iTunes or amazon.com. I'd sure like to know where it is available if somebody else has found it. I am seriously addicted to this song. There's just something about it....
i was having the same trouble with finding another song from a different movie. but i managed to separate the audio from the dvd. so try and download dvd to ipod converter or something.
I like this song too, and I am sure it must be a genuine Negro spiritual. I noticed the smiling woman in the congregation while this song is being sung. There is a teen-age boy with her, presumably her son, and the woman smiles while Elmer Gantry is singing the spiritual. There is a close-up shot of her before she joins in with the singing. I believe this woman is portrayed by the late Isabel Sanford of "The Jeffersons," but she is uncredited. Would someone please check this out. Ms. Sanford was born in 1917 and would have been about 43 when "Elmer Gantry" was filmed in 1960.
I looked up Isabel Sanford's IMDB page. It says she was in Broadway for 30 years before film and TV. She was in Guess Who is Coming to Dinner in 1967, her earliest job listed. It seems unlikely that seven years of her movie career would be missing. I personally doubt it is her.
