Symbolism
Loved the Shirley Jones scene (TCM plays it a lot for the movie when talking about Shirley Jones) when she's brushing her hair in the brothel and then emphatically pokes the pussy-cat off of the dresser right when she says how Elmer Gantry treated her. I had a great laugh :D
