What would YOU say the message of this film is? Pro-religion, anti-religion?

Faith can be stolen from us when we need it the most. Our covenant is with God and this movie showed both sides of religion. How churches can preach and be used.

My thought is that you know what's going to happen from the beginning. Gantry's going to get "too big for his britches," do something stupid, have his downfall, etc.
It's an entertaining film, but it seems too obvious on where it's going.
To my mind, "The Apostle" with Robert Duvall is a better take on the same subject. It's about a man who we know from the get-go is deeply flawed. And, we see his struggle and it feels real.

aidosh94, I couldn't say whether it was "pro" or anti" religion simply because there are other religions in this world besides Christianity!
I'm Jewish myself, and while there are aspects of Judaism that I question (particularly laws made up by men, not God), that doesn't make me "anti-religious".
I'm sure people of other faiths would agree.
What I am is "anti-zealotry".
