Sandro doesn't cheat on Claudia with a prostitute...

...but with Goria Perkins, writer, who we've seen in an earlier scene. I suppose some people make that assumption on other threads here because he tosses money at her as a "souvenir" that she requests from him, but she is unmistakably the same woman that is seen earlier surrounded by men and hustled away into an awaiting car. What a fascinating film; saw it for the first time today on IFC, have wanted to see it for a long time. I wonder - do the folks that have written in other threads that call her a prostitute do so only because of the tossed money? They don't recognize her?

Actually, the man that Sandro walks with immedietely after her introduction tells of how men will spend money to spend time with her.

Sounds quite a bit like prostitution when you think of it like that, right?

That's right... who's laughing now... who's laughing now?

I recognized her of course (so does Sandro) and I also remember the man in the town telling Sandro that the woman drew a price of 50K lire. So she did come across to me as a woman who sold herself for money....or a prostitute.

Ms. Perkins did claim to be a writer earlier in the movie, but if she receives compensation for performing sexual acts then she is a prostitute. The roles are not mutually exclusive. One can be both a writer and a prostitute.

That reporter implies in so many words that she's a high class prositute and call girl. And it would be only natural for her to mingle in a luxury restort hotel, where clients of her type would be staying. There's also a fine line between being a prostitute and a "kept woman". Or a trophy wife, for that matter. Some things are expected by those that pay.
